Assistant Director Anesthesia
About the role
The Assistant Director of Anesthesia is a highly skilled, advanced practice clinician and dynamic leader responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered anesthesia care across multiple perioperative settings. This role combines clinical excellence as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with administrative and leadership responsibilities, including staff oversight, operational planning, and quality improvement initiatives. The Assistant Director serves as the direct supervisor for Children’s South CRNAs and anesthesia technicians and provides leadership support to senior CRNAs and anesthesia staff. This position requires a flexible, self-directed professional capable of working independently, leading multidisciplinary teams, and traveling between facilities to support consistent, high-quality anesthesia care.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered anesthesia care across multiple perioperative settings.
- Combine clinical excellence as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with administrative and leadership responsibilities, including staff oversight, operational planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve as the direct supervisor for Children’s South CRNAs and anesthesia technicians and provide leadership support to senior CRNAs and anesthesia staff.
- Work independently, lead multidisciplinary teams, and travel between facilities to support consistent, high-quality anesthesia care.
- Coordinate daily clinical operations, staffing, scheduling, and resource management.
- Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Show strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Travel between facilities (approximately 60%-40% split) and provide operational coverage as needed both at Children’s South and Children’s Downtown (Main).
- Work within 24/7 operational demands.
Requirements
- Master’s (MNA or MSN) degree in Nurse Anesthesia or related field.
- Doctoral degree (DNP) preferred.
- Graduated from an accredited nurse anesthesia program.
- Current NBCRNA certification and eligibility for state license.
- Unencumbered RN and APRN licensure in Alabama.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
- Demonstrated experience coordinating daily clinical operations, staffing, scheduling, and resource management.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Current licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in the state(s) of practice.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in perioperative or anesthesia services.
- Strong clinical expertise across pediatric populations.
- Proficient in hospital information systems and perioperative technology.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to travel between facilities (approximately 60%-40% split) and provide operational coverage as needed both at Children’s South and Children’s Downtown (Main).
- Flexible, self-directed, and able to work within 24/7 operational demands.
Qualifications
- Equivalent qualifications include a Master’s (MNA or MSN) degree in Nurse Anesthesia or related field.
- Doctorate of Nursing Practice preferred.
- Equivalent qualifications include 5 years of job experience as Staff Level with specialization in the field of Anesthesia.
