Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance, and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complementing and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which supports administrators, coaches, staff members, and student-athletes in promoting a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Position Summary

Aid the head coach in all aspects of the Men’s and Women Track & Field program, including practice, competition activities, player skill development, recruiting, directing and implementing daily practices and competitions, organizing and administering clinics, and overall administrative tasks within the program. Demonstrate integrity, leadership, a strong commitment, and ability to motivate, teach, counsel, and recruit academically qualified students.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • At least 1 year of coaching experience in an intercollegiate environment, preferably at a Division I level.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal communications, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Prefer at least 1 year in relevant independent or educational activities.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs or greater.
  • May be required to navigate stairs.
  • Attention to detail essential.
  • Must be able to manage high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • May be subject to working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Travel required.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
