Assistant City Prosecutor

About the role

Under the general supervision of the City Attorney and City Prosecutor, the Assistant City Prosecutor prepares and handles criminal prosecutions and assists the City Attorney in civil matters for the City as assigned. Recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a JD degree
• Must be a member of the Utah Bar Association at the time of appointment

Essential Duties

• Performs criminal prosecution work under direction of the City Attorney and City Prosecutor
• Conducts legal research
• Handles appeals
• Appears in court to prosecute and dispose of criminal cases
• Screens possible criminal prosecutions from police
• Makes court appearances
• Prepares criminal cases for pre-trial and trial
• Prepares necessary pleadings
• Prepares ordinances
• Handles appeals to the State District and Appellate courts
• Performs civil legal work as directed by the City Attorney

Pay

Salary: $3,491 - $5,296 bi-weekly DOE (typically hire at or near minimum)
