The Pillars Child Care Center, opened in 2020, is an Intergenerational Child Care Center embedded in The Pillars of Prospect Park Senior Living community in Minneapolis, MN. Located off the light rail transit station and near the metro bus by the University of Minnesota campus, the center features 133 independent living, 106 assisted living, and 44 memory care apartments.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Assistant Teacher is responsible for the care and supervision of children in their assigned age group, which may include infant, toddler, preschool, or school-age children. This position leads, plans, and organizes childcare program activities to ensure high-quality care.

Schedule: 48 hours per two weeks, day shift.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop curriculum relevant to your classroom age group.
  • Provide weekly plans to both the Director and the parents of the childcare program.
  • Ensure implementation of age-appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate the psychosocial, cognitive, and cultural needs of the children in their care.
  • Report any concerns to the Teacher or Director regarding staff or classroom issues.
  • Assist in keeping necessary attendance records, up-to-date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profiles, and other records as needed.
  • Assist in communicating with parents on child development issues, policies, or other concerns related to their child.
  • Ensure the health, hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of children at all times.
  • Assist in conducting parent-teacher conferences twice per year.
  • Assist in completing ongoing assessments of children.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information of staff and families.
  • Strictly comply with universal precautions in the classroom and/or when administering first aid.
  • Directly supervise classroom aides and volunteers; report all needed information to the classroom Teacher or the center’s Director.
  • Report daily needs and activities to the Teacher.
  • Assist in maintaining attendance and daily meal count.
  • Assist in maintaining the daily program schedule.
  • Supervise the health and safety needs of every child.
  • Assist in conducting classroom and parent meetings.
  • Keep the classroom neat and orderly.

Requirements

  • Child Development or Assistant Teacher qualified under Minnesota Rule 9503.0033.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Current Pediatric CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • One to two years of teaching in a childcare center or early childhood program.

Pay

An individual's pay rate within the posted range may be determined by various factors, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, the organization prioritizes pay equity and considers internal team equity when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
