Assistant Chief Engineer
Job Summary
The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the maintenance operations of the hotel by supervising maintenance staff, managing systems like refrigeration, heating, plumbing, and energy controls, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and on time. This role assists the Chief Engineer and ensures compliance with maintenance standards to maintain a high level of guest satisfaction.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Provide professional and courteous guest service at all times.
- Supervise maintenance operations, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, A/C units, emergency generators, lighting, and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspaces and storage areas.
- Monitor energy consumption (electric, gas, oil, water) and manage resources efficiently.
- Oversee inventory levels, place supply orders, and maintain accurate records of usage and purchases.
- Avoid staff scheduling, training, and supervision of maintenance associates.
- Aid in staff training and supervision of maintenance associates.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of maintenance projects according to specifications.
- Work closely with Housekeeping and Security to coordinate activities and maintain key inventory.
- Maintain ongoing preventative maintenance programs for all hotel spaces and equipment.
- Cover departmental responsibilities in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
- Interact with city agencies to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.
Required Experience, Education, and Skills
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in hotel engineering or maintenance operations.
- Strong knowledge of systems, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, and energy controls.
- Experience supervising maintenance staff and coordinating projects.
- Ability to manage inventory, monitor energy consumption, and ensure compliance with maintenance standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills for working with staff, management, and external stakeholders.
Work Environment
- Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying temperatures.
- Frequent walking, standing, and lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to noise and vibration from mechanical equipment during maintenance tasks.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required, with potential on-call responsibilities for emergencies.
