Assistant Bursar / Assistant Director - Student Financial Services

Focus People is seeking an experienced finance and accounts receivable professional for an Assistant Bursar / Assistant Director of Student Financial Services opportunity with a school in Cartersville, GA. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing student account operations, including billing, collections, accounts receivable, cashiering, reconciliations, and student account support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day student accounts and Bursar operations
• Manage billing, collections, deposits, disbursements, and accounts receivable
• Monitor and reconcile student accounts and financial records
• Coordinate collection activity for student and third-party accounts
• Assist students and parents with billing questions, payment options, and account issues
• Supervise Student Account Technicians and Coordinators
• Support 1098-T processing, fee setup, reporting, and records management
• Work closely with Accounting, Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, and other departments
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and student account operations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management, public administration, or a related field
• 3–5 years of finance-related experience, including supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, collections, financial practices, and recordkeeping
• Experience reconciling accounts and resolving financial discrepancies
• Strong Excel and general computer skills
• Ability to supervise staff, prioritize competing responsibilities, and make sound decisions
• Strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to handle sensitive or difficult financial conversations
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience with student accounts, Bursar operations, higher education, or student information systems is especially helpful
