Assistant Attorney General II, Sexually Violent Predators - Civil Commitment
Job Duties
The successful candidate will represent the Commonwealth in litigation involving individuals being considered for involuntary civil commitment as sexually violent predators. Responsibilities include preparing pleadings, conducting discovery, gathering and analyzing relevant information, performing legal research, collaborating with agency partners, and litigating hearings in circuit courts throughout the Commonwealth. The position also offers opportunities to occasionally brief and argue cases before the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Prepare pleadings and conduct discovery
- Gather and analyze relevant information
- Perform legal research
- Collaborate with agency partners
- Litigate hearings in circuit courts throughout the Commonwealth
- Occasionally brief and argue cases before the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited law school
- Admitted to the Virginia State Bar
- At least five (5) years of litigation experience
Qualifications
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in time management
- The flexibility to work both independently and as a team member
- The ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision
Skills
- Prior experience with expert witnesses
- Prior experience with the psychology field
- Prior experience with litigating jury trials

Pay
Hiring Range: $85,550-$106,838
