Assistant/Associate Tenure-Track Professor and Coordinator, Allied Health Concentration within the BS Exercise Sport Physiology

About the role

Tarleton State University, a distinguished Doctoral National Comprehensive University, invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor and Coordinator, Allied Health Concentration within the BS Exercise Sport Physiology in the Department of Health and Human Physiology. This 10.5-month tenure-track position is located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas, with summer appointments dependent upon need and funding availability.

The faculty member is expected to demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, maintain an impactful research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate, and may include teaching at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities.

Responsibilities

• Teaching & Service (60%)
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate students, including general education core curriculum.
  • Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, and papers.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance through office hours, assignment feedback, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current and improve teaching skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development.
  • Participate in institutional service roles such as college committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
• Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (20%)
  • Maintain an active agenda for research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to the applicant’s academic discipline.
  • Make original contributions through scholarly publication, presentation, or exhibition.
  • Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
• Coordinator, Allied Health Concentration (20%)
  • Work with department, college, and university leadership to grow and lead the program.
  • Engage students within the program and provide effective mentoring.
  • Contribute to the overall development and success of the program and ensure curriculum challenges students while facilitating their professional development.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline from an accredited university.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Administrative and leadership experience.
• Previous experience in oversight of academic programs.
• Previous experience as a faculty member and experience in supervisory and/or management position(s) in the academy.
• Experience with CASCE Accreditation.
