ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING Tenure-eligible/UMKC School of Science & Engineering

Hiring Department: The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Science and Engineering, Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems (BBS). BBS is one of four divisions in SSE, established through UMKC Forward—a university initiative to foster multidisciplinary learning, academics, research, and outreach. Focus areas include neurobiology, developmental biology, structural biology, and cell interactions with the environment, using model systems such as E. coli, Saccharomyces, plants, fruit flies, and zebrafish. BBS grants BS, BA, BS/MS, MA, MS, and PhD degrees, including degrees in Biomedical Engineering. UMKC is rated R1 by the Carnegie Research Classification, with research supporting advances in defense, healthcare, public safety, and technology.

About the Role

Full-time tenure-track/tenure-eligible faculty position in Biomedical Engineering at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We encourage applications from individuals employing engineering, scientific, and technological approaches to address questions in the life sciences. Preferences will be given to candidates working in Biomaterials, Biomedical Imaging, Neural Engineering, or Computational Biomedical Engineering, though other areas will be considered.

Requirements

• Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or D.V.M.
• At least two years of postdoctoral experience is recommended.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellence in research, including initiating or continuing an independent extramurally funded research program or serving as a principal investigator in larger collaborative teams.
• Strong commitment to teaching in the classroom and mentoring students in the laboratory (undergraduate and graduate).
• Engage in divisional, school, or university service appropriate to the position.
• Advance the goals and strategic plan of SSE and UMKC.

Pay

This is a 9-month, ranked, tenure-track or tenure-eligible full-time faculty position. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with rank, success in funded research, and credentials.

The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) has the largest enrollment and research portfolio at UMKC. SSE recently added a new $40M (23M building and $17M equipment), 58,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility to support multidisciplinary education, research, and economic development.
