Tennessee State University Department of Food and Animal Sciences invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Animal Science, with a focus on animal genetics/genomics.
Responsibilities
- Develop a nationally recognized basic research program leading to peer-reviewed publications in mainstream journals and/or book chapters.
- Initiate, generate, and sustain external funding from various sources to facilitate and sustain research, teaching, and student mentorship.
- Conduct basic and applied research in animal genetics/genomics.
- Teach courses in animal genetics and related areas as needed by the department.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students in a multicultural setting with diverse student backgrounds.
- Serve as research supervisor for undergraduate and graduate students in animal sciences.
- Capitalize on cross-disciplinary collaboration among faculty in animal sciences and related areas to enhance student training, mentorship, and research endeavors.
- Work in a multicultural setting and foster an environment that promotes collegiality and teamwork.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in Animal Genetics, Genomics, or a closely related animal science field from accredited universities.
- Understanding of genetic principles and basic tools of animal breeding for animal improvement.
- Evidence of investigative work in molecular genetics or genomics applied to ruminant livestock (preferably beef cattle) is a plus.
- Previous experience at the Assistant/Associate Professor level is desired.
- Documented evidence of research and teaching experience in ruminant livestock genetics.
- Strong communication skills and a track record in innovative teaching, student training, mentorship, research, and refereed publication.

Schedule
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
- Days worked: Monday through Friday.
- 12 months per year (fiscal year).
