The Department of Radiology at the University of California San Diego is seeking full-time and part-time faculty members to join the Body Imaging Division. UC San Diego School of Medicine is consistently ranked among the top research-intensive medical schools in the nation, and UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system serving the San Diego region, featuring major campuses in Hillcrest and La Jolla.

About the Role

The Body Imaging Division plays a central role in diagnosing and managing a wide range of conditions using advanced cross-sectional imaging, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy. Faculty work collaboratively with referring clinicians to provide timely, high-quality, and patient-centered interpretations. Responsibilities include interpreting abdominal and pelvic CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound studies, as well as participating in educational and administrative activities such as teaching fellows, residents, and medical students, and contributing to tumor boards and division initiatives.

The division supports a healthy work-life balance, including a hybrid work schedule. Faculty in this division do not perform invasive procedures. Appointments may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, depending on the candidate’s background and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret abdominal and pelvic CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound studies.
  • Collaborate with referring clinicians across multiple specialties to provide high-quality, patient-centered interpretations.
  • Participate in educational activities, including teaching fellows, residents, medical students, and visiting scholars.
  • Contribute to tumor boards and other division initiatives.
  • Engage in clinical, teaching, and research missions of the department.

Requirements

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Hold or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology residency and a one-year body imaging fellowship.
  • At least one year of academic productivity, scholarship, clinical care, and teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in an academic setting.
  • Strong interest in becoming an international leader in abdominal and pelvic imaging.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $400,000 - $430,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Appointment type, rank, and/or step may affect the minimum pay and additional compensation eligibility. UC Salary information can be found at the 2026-2027 Academic Salary Scales.
