Responsibilities
- Develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni throughout the US and globally.
- Engages in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry/field, employers, and positions, including site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations.
- High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining partnerships are essential.
- Guides students through their career development and co-op experiences, educating, advising, and coaching students, developing and delivering effective teaching and advising programs that enable students to be successful in today’s global environment.
- Teaches career education courses each semester, preparing classroom materials that include job search strategy, interviewing skills, resume writing, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and other relevant learning objectives.
- Maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
- Collaborates with college academic faculty, leadership, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences.
- Shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
- Engages in service to cooperative education within the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Engineering, and to Northeastern University, including delivering presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students, participating in committees and task forces, advising/supporting a student club, and/or contributing to a professional society.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, or a related engineering/science or business-related field is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years of professional work experience.
- Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment.
- Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
- Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in the engineering profession or in career development and counseling of engineering students.
- Experience working with an international student population.
