Assistant/Associate Co-op Coordinator
Responsibilities
The Co-op Coordinator educates students through their career development. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today’s global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom. The Co-op Coordinator teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and as well as leadership skills and self-awareness and emotional intelligence development. The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
The Co-op Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning. Employer Relations/Job Development: The Co-op Coordinator develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni. They engage in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential. Prior professional experience in industry is preferred.
The Co-op Coordinator also engages in service to the Office of the Chancellor, the College of Professional Studies, and to Northeastern University. Service includes making presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces; and serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or a health science/public health related field is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years work experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
- Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
- Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
- Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- An academic degree in a related counseling, education or business area, or experience in career development and counseling of students.
- Professional experience within the project management or analytics field is a plus.
- Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.
- Experience developing employer partnerships and supporting experiential learning opportunities.
- Experience working with an international student population.
- Teaching experience in a classroom environment.
Pay
Assistant Coop Coordinator: $66,000.00 - $80,000.00
Associate Coop Coordinator: $73,000.00 - $93,000.00
