Asset Manager

About the role

Talen Energy is seeking an Asset Manager to join our Commercial team in the Houston, TX office to support Commercial Operations for our PJM fleet. The Asset Management Desk is responsible for purchasing and selling wholesale energy and scheduling generation to meet energy delivery obligations in the Day-Ahead and Real-Time markets for which our assets are located.

Your work will directly support safe, reliable power generation, driving meaningful change beyond day-to-day contributions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute asset dispatch strategies within a portfolio of generating assets.
• Serve as point of contact for plant operations and external Energy Manager to communicate operational and market conditions, including properly documenting asset availability and limitations.
• Work as a team member within Talen Commercial to explain results to Senior Management.
• Create and facilitate processes across internal groups at Talen to comply with ISO requirements, including:
  • Fuel Cost Policy submissions and management.
  • Cost and Price curve development and submission.
• Ensure compliance with ISO requirements in Capacity and Energy markets.
• Coordinate with Risk and Operations to manage unit parameters in ISO submissions and internal modeling.
• Field data requests and inquiries from ISO and regulatory bodies and coordinate responses.

Requirements

• Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or Mathematics preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of energy market experience optimizing generating assets and dispatching power plants in PJM is required.
• Expert understanding of rules, regulations, and requirements for compliance with ISO standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Certified Generation Operator certificate preferred.
