About the role

This opening is for an advanced Assembly Operator V working directly with fiber optics. You will be a key member of the team responsible for optical connector and cable assembly, termination of various fiber optic cable configurations, test station setup, advanced testing, and assisting in training new and existing employees. The role involves process development, problem resolution for new optical products, and continuous improvement to simplify products, reduce costs, and increase manufacturing efficiency. You will work under schedule pressures, balance workloads, and maintain a strong focus on customer service. The ideal candidate thrives in a team environment, possesses strong hand-eye coordination, and pays meticulous attention to detail.

This position offers a relocation stipend of $2,200. Bonus and retention award opportunities may be available based on training milestones and continued good standing.

Schedule

• 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM (10% shift differential)
• Available to work overtime and off-shifts to support production goals as needed

Responsibilities

• Polish and test fiber optic cables
• Assemble and package fiber optic connector components
• Operate fiber router and complete over-molding process (as needed)
• Support prototype product builds, test product builds, and pre-release NPI builds
• Measure components using calipers, gages, or other measuring devices
• Complete operational paperwork to maintain product traceability
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
• Demonstrate cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly
• Terminate various standard and new fiber optic termini designs
• Perform EFG & IPC (workmanship) checks on single and multi-fiber termini
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment, identify and resolve issues
• Assist engineering with new product launch manufacturing processes
• Identify process changes to improve manufacturing efficiencies
• Communicate within a team to ensure clarity of purpose and customer satisfaction
• Provide high-quality, accurate products in a timely manner according to the skills matrix
• Use fiber optic and electronic test equipment: Optical Power Meters, IL/RL Test, Oscilloscope, DMM, Variable Power Supplies, Variable Attenuators, Optical & RF Switch
• Train new and existing team members on products, processes, and procedures
• Perform and lead advanced assembly processes for numerous fiber optic products
• Derive measurements from drawings
• Inspect own work and products using quality standards, work instructions, and prints
• Work in a clean room environment wearing required gowning and PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)
• Drive and implement continuous improvement processes
• Back up team lead as needed
• Serve as a technical escalation point for production and quality concerns

Requirements

• Ability to distinguish between color-coded fiber optic cables
• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience, including 2+ years in fiber optic assembly manufacturing
• Proficient dexterity and motor skills for intricate/delicate work
• Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred
• Ability to work with small parts in a clean room environment using a microscope
• Good time management skills to work on numerous projects simultaneously
• Attention to detail (following bill of material, routers, and understanding drawings/prints)
• Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively and cohesively with others
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Safe and quality-conscious attitude, following safety and quality requirements
• Experience using electronic testing equipment such as Oscilloscope, DMM, Variable Power Supplies
• Excel skills to record, organize, and analyze data
• Ability to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time
• Ability to move between work zones
• Proficiency in understanding written instructions in English

Pay

Competitive base salary: $33–$35 per hour (subject to change based on physical location). Total compensation includes base salary, incentives, and benefits.
