About the role

This opening is for an Assembly Operator III working directly with fiber optics. This position is responsible for optical connector assembly, termination of various configurations of fiber optic cable assemblies, and testing of these cable assemblies. This individual may assist in process development and resolution of problems encountered in the process of bringing new optical products from concept to market. The individual is a self-starter and has the ability to work well under schedule pressures with the ability to balance workload as priorities change. Candidates will have a strong work ethic with a desire to continually learn and a concentrated focus on serving the customer. The ideal candidate works well in teams, has the desire to learn, possesses strong hand-eye coordination, and maintains the attention to detail needed to make quality products for our customers.

Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area, following safety guidelines, and adhering to all TE Connectivity's policies and procedures. Schedule

2nd shift: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM (10% shift differential).

Responsibilities

• Polish and test fiber optic cables
• Assemble and package fiber optic connector components (as needed)
• Terminate single and multi-fiber cables
• Operate fiber router and complete over-molding process (as needed)
• Support prototype product builds, test product builds, pre-release NPI builds (as needed)
• Measure components using calipers, gages, or other measuring devices
• Complete necessary operational paperwork required to maintain the traceability of product
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
• Understand cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude to safely and efficiently operate equipment (E-Stop/Soft Stop) and identify issues
• Suggest process improvements to enhance overall manufacturing efficiencies
• Communicate within a team atmosphere to ensure clarity of purpose and customer satisfaction
• After a 30-day training period, work with limited supervision to provide timely and quality products
• Inspect own work and products using quality standards, work instructions, and prints
• Take accountability for work and respect confidential information shared by others
• Work overtime to support production goals as needed
• Work in a cleanroom environment wearing all required cleanroom gowning garments and PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)

Requirements

• Ability to distinguish between color-coded fiber optic cables to ensure accurate assembly, installation, and quality standards
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of two years of manufacturing experience, including at least one year of fiber optic assembly manufacturing experience
• Proficient hand-eye dexterity and motor skills for intricate/delicate work
• Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and wear required PPE (gowns, shoe booties, hair nets, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes)
• Good time management skills to work on numerous projects (sometimes simultaneously)
• Attention to detail (following bill of material, job routers, and understanding drawings/prints)
• Team-oriented, working effectively and cohesively with other employees to achieve required objectives and goals
• Credibility—takes responsibility for own work and respects confidential information shared by others
• A safe and quality-conscious attitude, following safety and quality requirements
• Experience using electronic testing equipment such as oscilloscope, DMM (Digital Multimeter), variable power supplies preferred
• Excel skills to record, organize, and analyze data preferred
• Some post-high school technical courses preferred
• Ability to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to operate machinery
• Ability to move between work zones
• Proficiency in understanding written instructions in the English language
• Ability to read prints

Pay

Competitive base salary: $27–$30/hour (subject to change dependent on physical location). Total compensation includes base salary, incentives, and benefits.
