Assembly BIW Engineering Manager
About the role
The Assembly BIW Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and supervising 5 direct reports, both SBU and NBU, and 3 – 2nd level HBU. They provide 24/7 critical situation support, daily support of production and maintenance at all GEMBA meetings using the SIS Shop Floor Management process/tools, oversee and monitor systems performance and quality, identify degrading trends and causal issues, solve problems, develop and implement corrective actions, and develop improvement projects to increase JPH and quality.
They track and present performance metrics such as CYCLE time, JPH, change over, and number of open/closed issues and associated improvements achieved. They oversee all welding system parameters and performance, responsible for archiving recipe data, programmable device backups, standards assurance, approval, and coordination of new model/systems design, build, installation, and preproduction build/performance. They also provide an atmosphere of accountability through assignment and individual ownership to meet task/project timing.
Responsibilities
- Management and Supervision of 5 direct reports both SBU and NBU and 3 – 2nd level HBU.
- 24/7 critical situation support.
- Daily support of production and maintenance at all GEMBA meetings using the SIS Shop Floor Management process/tools.
- Oversight and monitoring of systems performance and quality, identifying degrading trends and causal issues.
- Solving issues, developing, and implementing corrective actions.
- Developing improvement projects specific to Engineering to increase JPH, Quality.
- Tracking and presenting performance metrics such as CYCLE time, JPH, change over, and number of open/closed issues and associated improvements achieved.
- Oversight of all welding system parameters and performance, responsible for archiving recipe data.
- All programmable device back-ups archiving. Standards assurance, approval, and coordination of New Model / systems design, build, installation, and preproduction build/performance.
- Providing an atmosphere of accountability, through assignment and individual ownership to meet timing of tasks/projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in applied science or management
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Electrical / PLC controls
- Minimum of 5 years’ of integration experience in automated BIW assembly/welding systems
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in resistance welding, with the ability to develop a welding schedule
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management with cost and timing responsibility
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing/supervising UAW Skilled Trades
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in applied science or management
