About the role
We are seeking Assembler/Packers to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of bench and structural assembly, boxing and bagging operations of parts, components, and assemblies for the company’s snowplow and Ice Control products lines and accessories.
- Set up and operate machinery and equipment such as assembly and packaging, unloading parts from a powered conveyor, bagging machines, strapper, and assorted power and hand tools.
- Actively participate in team and total quality commitment activities.
- Perform designated maintenance functions; assume ownership for quality of all products.
- Participate in training and 5-S activities.
- Follow job instructions (JIs), standards, regulations, procedures, and quality checks to ensure compliance, product quality, and scrap reduction.
- Assemble products in paced conveyor and non-paced environments.
- Set up and operate machinery and equipment including assembly and packaging machines, powered conveyors, bagging machines, strapper, and assorted power/hand tools.
- Unload, move, and handle parts/components using conveyors and material handling equipment.
- Maintain safe working conditions and support 5S workplace organization practices.
- Meet production plans and standards (produce to takt) while controlling costs.
- Report assembly, packaging, equipment or unusual workplace issues to the BU lead or supervisor.
- Participate in training, continuous improvement, and team-based problem solving.
- Work collaboratively and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic lean concepts.
- Prior background in a manufacturing setting.
- Product knowledge.
- Organizational and research skills.
- Ability to report daily production.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Able to focus on multiple priorities and work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Able to stand and walk.
- Able to reach above shoulders and outward.
- Able to bend, squat and crawl.
- Able to work in both hold and cold temperatures.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
