About the role
The primary responsibility of the American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter (Level II) is to provide interpretation services for hearing-impaired students in mainstream classrooms, extracurricular activities, and conferences. This role involves interpreting lessons, answering questions, and facilitating communication between hearing and deaf students.
Responsibilities
- Interpret lessons and communicate with hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms.
- Work with students in small groups or individually to reinforce learning and skills.
- Interpret for students in extracurricular activities and conferences.
- Facilitate communication between hearing and deaf students.
- Drive between schools to address student needs when colleagues are absent.
- Reassign with little or no notice as needed.
Requirements
- Certified by the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), both written and performance OR Passed the National Interpreting Certification
- Graduate from an Interpreter Training Program preferred
- Possess a high school degree or equivalent
- Thirty (30) semester credits or forty-five (45) quarter credits from an accredited university, college, community college, or business school
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Skills in interviewing
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics specific to the role of interpreter
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent

- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Passing the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or National Interpreting Certification
- Experience in a related field

Schedule
6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year.
Pay
Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. Employees with prior service may receive experience credit towards salary placement.
