About the role
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in mainstream classrooms. This includes facilitating communication between the student and the classroom teacher, assisting with group activities, and ensuring that the student's educational needs are met.
Responsibilities
- Interpret lessons and communicate with students and teachers
- Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning
- Communicate with hearing students and staff using American Sign Language
- Drive between schools to support students when colleagues are absent
- Assist in the organization and facilitation of extracurricular activities
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills
Requirements
- Certified by the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or Passed the National Interpreting Certification
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 30 semester credits or 45 quarter credits from an accredited institution
Qualifications
- Possess a high school degree or equivalent
- Pass a criminal background investigation
- Have demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Be able to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics for interpreters

Pay
New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. Employees with prior service in a similar occupational status may receive experience credit towards salary placement. For more details, please refer to the provided links.
Schedule
This position is full-time, working 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year. Regular attendance is essential to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
