ASL Interpreter

About the role

The position will work directly with students who require assistance in the classroom due to an identified hearing impairment. This position facilitates communication between the student and teacher, peer or staff member to ensure instruction is communicated effectively and students are able to fully participate in the learning process.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in all areas of the educational environment
• Makes recommendations regarding communication in the development and review of progress on the IEP, including evaluations of student use of an interpreter
• Collaborates with teaching staff to continuously improve communication strategies and implement classroom modifications/accommodations as requested
• Performs other job-related duties as required

Qualifications

• High school diploma; Associate’s degree preferred
• Valid Ohio license or permit appropriate for the assignment
• Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
• Proficiency in American Sign Language and oral interpreting; ASL certification preferred
