Army Day
History
The first Army Day took place on May 1, 1928, to counterbalance the Communist celebration of Workers’ Day, which also falls on May 1. Starting in 1929, the observance was moved to April 6 to commemorate the United States' entry into World War I.
Significance
Army Day celebrates the contributions of the armed forces and reminds us of the sacrifices they make to protect home and country. It is a day to show appreciation for the military and to help veterans and their families.
