Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our healthcare team in a secure juvenile residential/correctional setting. The RN is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care, conducting health assessments, administering medications and treatments, responding to medical emergencies, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote the health and well-being of youth residents. This position requires professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a secure environment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and respond to youth health concerns while providing appropriate nursing care and patient education.
- Congduct intake health screenings for newly admitted youth.
- Obtain and process laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples.
- Monitor, document, and report changes in youth health status and vital signs.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor for therapeutic effectiveness and potential adverse reactions.
- Provide direct patient care and respond to medical emergencies involving youth residents and staff, as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and members of the healthcare team to develop and coordinate individualized treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with organizational policies and nursing standards.
- Ensure medical supplies, medications, and equipment are properly stocked, maintained, and accounted for.
- Administer immunizations and assist with annual Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable nursing regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support healthcare operations.
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of professional nursing practices, procedures, and standards of care.
- Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to recognize, evaluate, and respond effectively to medical emergencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment while working within the scope of nursing practice.
- Demonstrated professionalism when responding to medical issues and inquiries.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including professional and support staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
Minimum Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of ***.
- Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nurse experience.
- Ability to successfully complete an extensive internal background check.
- Ability to work the scheduled day shift and meet attendance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous nursing experience in a correctional, juvenile detention, behavioral health, or secure residential setting is preferred.
- Experience working with adolescent or vulnerable populations is a plus.
