Area Trainer

Area Trainer responsible for overseeing Handlers to ensure cargo screenings comply with TSA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and training to assigned Handlers and canines related to operational searches and training
• Perform canine training, audits, and administrative deliverables as required for assigned Canine Teams
• Schedule and conduct recurring training for recertifications, remedial, sustainment, and advancement training
• Provide temporary certified Handler duties as required for the program
• Participate in CCSP-related training to search cargo and identify explosive threats
• Perform temporary Handler duties while commanding a trained explosive working dog as required for the program
• Maintain training records, care, and maintenance of assigned certified canine; the canine must live inside the employee’s climate-controlled residence and is subject to recurring inspections
• Develop and follow established training protocols in accordance with statements of work and standard operating procedures
• Arrange operational exercises to replicate real-life scenarios and enable canines to work independently in high-density environments
• Transport, secure, and account for canine training aids, equipment, company vehicles, canine trailers, and other assets
• Conduct on-the-job training and instruction of new Handlers and Trainers
• Maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances
• Operate company vehicle and obtain DoT and HAZMAT licenses
• Inventory explosive training aids
• Travel up to 70% to contract locations nationwide
• Work in varied conditions, including busy training environments, fieldwork, outdoors, and inclement weather (heat, cold, humidity)
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration
• Work hours dictated by customer schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required
• Minimum of five years of experience training canines and teams in explosive detection
• Three years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment
• Prior supervisory experience preferred
• Must obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment
• Adequate transportation with operational climate control to transport assigned canine and crate
• Must pass applicable Contract Testing and Certifications within four to six weeks of employment and maintain certification requirements
• Demonstrated experience solving unique training problems with detection dogs and evaluating canine training principles
• Valid Driver’s License with a clear driving record for the last three years; must maintain during employment
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities
• Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
• Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs
• Requires standing for long periods in all weather conditions, as well as intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending, and kneeling
• Constant use of hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls
