About the role
As an Area Supervisor at Ross, you will be a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as general operations and supervision when functioning as the Manager on Duty. You will ensure a safe, friendly, and easy-to-shop environment while maintaining proper merchandise presentation and operational processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments:
- Practice safe behaviors and maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to ensure a secure shopping environment.
- Correct or report unsafe conditions immediately to Store Leadership.
- Ensure security of the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, Cash Office security, and register area safety.
- Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
- Responsible for Customer safety, accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
- Customer Service:
- Treat all Customers, Associates, and leaders with respect, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs.
- Personal and Store Brand:
- Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance according to the Company Dress Code and ensure Associates adhere to it.
- Keep all areas of the Store clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Responsible for daily trash removal.
- General Merchandising:
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks and processing all merchandise with urgency.
- Handle receipt of all non-merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms.
- Deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
- Secure and process back-stock according to Company policy.
- Merchandise assigned department, including back stock.
- Reduce loss due to damage and ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines.
- Perform floor moves, signing, and promotional signing as needed.
- Responsible for re-wraps as needed.
- Loss Prevention:
- Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a large Customer service presence on the sales floor.
- Engage with Customers and Associates to heighten Loss Prevention awareness.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
- Conduct "Code 50" package inspections.
- Execute all Company Best Practices to maximize productivity.
- Front End Supervision and Operations:
- Execute all Company Best Practices to maximize productivity at the Front End.
- Ensure Associates adhere to Company standards at the Front End.
- Maintain pace, energy, and "presence" to manage the line and expedite Customer wait time.
- Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures.
- Control Retail Associates' break schedules.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly and maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area.
- Expedite go-backs, ensuring they are properly scanned, security tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach Associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, and specialty racks.
- Fitting Rooms:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Fitting Rooms.
- Audit and account for all Fitting Room garment tags according to Company policy.
- Ensure go-back compliance throughout the day, with all merchandise returned to the sales floor properly ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged.
- Administrative Duties:
- Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits according to Company policy.
- Responsible for Front End control, including refund approval, Associate purchase approval, securing tills, and cash in safe.
- Adhere to policies for register Paid Outs/Ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.
- Responsible for payroll administration, including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and Payroll reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Prior Customer Service and supervisory experience preferred.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
- Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
- Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
- For Stockroom shifts: Ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 pounds.
Pay
The base pay range for this role is $19.25 to $22.80 per hour. The range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location.
