About the role

The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Store Leadership team at Ross, a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store and manages the general operations and supervision of the store.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by understanding and practicing safe behaviors, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times.
  • Execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
  • Manage customer safety, accident prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
  • Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
  • Ensure all areas of the store are clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency, handle non-merchandise inbound deliveries, and ensure back-stock is secured and processed to Company policy.
  • Manage the front-end operations, train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front-end procedures.
  • Supervise fitting rooms, ensuring all garments are audited and accounted for to Company policy, and enforce go-back compliance.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the Store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
