Area Supervisor

About the role

The Area Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Store Leadership team at Ross, a leading off-price retail chain. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position oversees a specific area of the store and manages the general operations and supervision of the store when acting as the Manager on Duty.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and secure environment by understanding and practicing safe behaviors, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
• Ensure the security of the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device daily function checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick-ups, and register area.
• Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
• Respond to customer needs, accidents, and emergencies, and follow emergency procedures.
• Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
• Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
• Represent and support the Company brand at all times, maintaining a professional appearance and ensuring all associates adhere to the Company Dress Code.
• Ensure all areas of the store are clean, well-maintained, and merchandised to standard, and remove daily trash.
• Manage the front-end operations, train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front-end procedures.
• Supervise fitting rooms, ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of the fitting rooms, and auditing garment tags to Company policy.
• Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Store Manager, including cash pulls, bank deposits, and payroll administration.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in English.
• Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale equipment and applications.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
• Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
• Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
• Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
• Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
