About the Role
As an Area Manager, you will lead a team of 60-100 Associates, including 2-4 Operations Leads, in areas such as inbound, outbound, or automation. You will collaborate with peers to meet production goals and ensure smooth workflow for your shift. Your focus will be on developing and supporting Leads who coach Associates on processes, procedures, quality standards, workflow, and scheduling. This role is ideal for someone passionate about team leadership, data-driven planning, process improvement, and relationship-building across all levels.
Responsibilities
- Own your team’s performance by setting them up for success through collaboration, coaching, and proactive communication.
- Utilize reporting tools to analyze KPIs and drive improvements in distribution center performance.
- Engage, recognize, and connect with the team to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Collaborate with peers and leadership to improve processes, increase efficiency, and target areas of opportunity.
- Manage day-to-day team needs, including vacation requests, scheduling, timecards, and attendance.
- Participate in special projects as needed to support business objectives.
- Provide and receive timely, constructive, and respectful feedback with team members, peers, and leadership.
- Actively participate in recruiting, onboarding, development, and retention of Associates.
- Demonstrate and reward ambassadors of ThredUp’s values (DOTS) and culture in all interactions.
- Ensure a safe work environment by modeling and promoting safe operations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of distribution/retail experience, including at least 3 years in training, mentoring, coaching, and leading teams.
- Strong collaboration skills to build trust, inclusion, and respect with peers, leaders, and team members.
- Ability to make complex decisions balancing team and business needs.
- Experience using reports and KPIs to coach and develop team members.
- Comfort in an upbeat, dynamic environment where teamwork and occasional fun (e.g., music, dance) are part of the culture.
