About the role

The Area Manager, Locate oversees workload distribution, customer relations, and interactions with corporate teams, IT, purchasing, homeowners, and the general public. This role includes disciplinary oversight, vehicle and equipment inspections, inventory management, and mentoring supervisors for performance improvement. The manager assists in damage resolution, interprets reports (e.g., PDR, audits, production), supports difficult locate jobs, maintains force-to-load requirements, and conducts staff performance reviews.

Responsibilities

• Oversee workload distribution and customer relations
• Interact with corporate, IT, purchasing, homeowners, and the public
• Manage disciplinary actions and conduct vehicle/equipment inspections
• Handle inventory ordering and mentor supervisors for performance improvement
• Assist in damage resolution and interpret reports (e.g., PDR, audits, production)
• Support difficult locate jobs and maintain force-to-load requirements
• Conduct performance reviews for staff

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
• Clean background check for access to restricted/controlled areas
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass random drug screens and remain drug-free
• Computer literacy and proficiency in locating utilities
• Ability to perform PDR or damage investigations
• Strong communication skills for interacting with the public, customers, contractors, and utility representatives
• Three to five years of experience in the locating industry
• Comprehensive understanding of underground utility construction and placement
• Successful completion of company-provided Locate Technician training and required testing
• Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Some travel may be required, including overnight stays and out-of-town assignments
• Above-average computer skills
