About the Role
Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Responsible for supervising the overall operation, condition, maintenance, and repair of all water treatment, physical plant, medical equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems in the centralized program for a defined area (typically 10 to 25 clinics and 7 to 15 employees). Ensures safety of patients and staff, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company standard operating procedures. Oversees OSHA and regulatory compliance, ensuring resolution of related issues.
Responsibilities
- Overall management of Technical Services for an area, collaborating with Area Managers and Directors of Operations to meet operational, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Management and oversight of financial metrics (e.g., TAP, maintenance parts cost, travel, and expenses) and data integrity for management systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Kronos, Service Database).
- Piloting and implementation of new systems and processes as needed.
- Supervision and oversight of repair and maintenance activities for water treatment equipment, dialysis equipment, ancillary equipment, test equipment, and the physical plant, following manufacturer recommendations and FMCNA policies.
- Documentation of all repair and maintenance activities per applicable policies and procedures.
- Purchase and maintenance of service parts inventory, including timely return of defective/warranty parts.
- Active participation in the Quality Assessment and Process Improvement (QAPI) process and cooperation with facility staff to meet regulatory and OSHA requirements.
- Collection, processing, evaluation, and reporting of water/dialysate samples per applicable policies and procedures.
- Transport of equipment as needed and collaboration with leadership to establish operating and financial goals.
- Monitoring performance metrics and implementing processes to impact them.
- Collaboration with Regional Technical Operations Manager on water treatment equipment selection for DeNovos, relocations, and renovations.
- Coordination with Project Managers on technical and physical plant aspects of DeNovos, relocations, and renovations.
- Integration of Technical Services into acquired facilities and performance of Technical Assessments for clinics in the assigned area.
- Initiation, monitoring, and management of external vendor service and maintenance agreements/contracts.
- Ensuring availability of applicable manufacturers' instructions for use (IFUs) and maintaining an accessible list of emergency contacts.
- Coordination of Technical Services support during natural disasters or emergency situations.
- Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, and mentoring of Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians.
- Provision of ongoing and formal annual performance evaluations, including oversight of corrective actions and Personnel Improvement Plans (PIP).
- Maintenance of technical sections of the Clinical Services Integrated Policy and Procedure manual and implementation of approved changes.
- Retention of technical records and logs according to FMCNA retention policy.
- Participation in facility audits and preparation/implementation of plans of correction for technical deficiencies.
- Scheduling and oversight of Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Maintenance and updating of water system diagrams and valve charts.
- Coordination of equipment installation and implementation of product initiatives and improvements.
- Assistance with the Direct Patient Care Technical Training Program and collaboration with Operations personnel on adverse events and product complaints.
- Monthly SAP supply inventory process and creation of SAP requisitions for equipment.
- Assistance with technical aspects of DeNovos, relocations, and renovations, ensuring proper installation, operation, and validation of dialysis machines, water systems, and mixing equipment.
- Maintenance of the asset register for 8000 series equipment based on equipment movement and Finance Department criteria.
- Assistance with review and recommendation of capital equipment purchases.
- Development and maintenance of positive working relationships with FMS-affiliated physicians, ensuring communication and dissemination of pertinent information.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- AA Degree in electronics/biomedical technology or equivalent preferred.
- Successful completion of the FMCNA Biomedical Technician Technical Certification Program within the first 24 months of employment required.
- Nephrology/Biomedical Industry Technical Certification within 24 months of employment preferred (choose one):
- Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT), Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT).
- National Nephrology Certification Organization (NNCO), Certified Biomedical Nephrology Technician (CBNT).
- Water Quality Association (WQA), Water Treatment Specialist (WTS).
- Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
- All required certifications must be maintained and current.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of four years of supervisory experience.
- Minimum of four years of experience working in an industrial/medical technical setting, or three years with an AA Degree in electronics/biomedical technology, or two years with a BS Degree in a technology or business field.
- Valid Driver’s License issued in the employee’s state of residence.
- Ability to use common hand tools and small power equipment.
- Ability to train subordinate personnel.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and mainframe applications.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate in the English language.
- Must meet the necessary requirements of Ishihara’s Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Overnight travel may be required.
