About the role

The Area Manager leads planning, recruitment, onboarding, administration, and quality assurance for the Field Operations department to ensure high-quality inspection delivery to builder clients. This role contributes to a values-driven environment, aligns with corporate policies and financial goals, and performs quality assurance metric analysis for self and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise daily field inspection services
  • Lead communication with field staff, scheduling, builders, and trade partners
  • Oversee and support all regional contracts to ensure smooth operational activities
  • Effectively communicate with builder superintendents, city inspectors, and trades on job sites
  • Maintain positive business relationships with builders and trade clients
  • Supervise daily work and assist with delegating work assignments and scheduling
  • Monitor controllable expenses to meet or exceed financial targets
  • Manage regional cost of sale (COS)
  • Monitor field metric reports and conduct audits to ensure compliance with policies, regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements; escalate issues as necessary
  • Maintain a professional image through consistent adherence to brand standards, including appearance and staff maintenance
  • Manage field staff personal time off, timecards, overtime expense approval, and reporting
  • Utilize effective time management skills
  • Manage regional equipment logistics and inventory
  • Prepare and deliver training to staff, builders, and trades; maintain certification records
  • Provide authoritative, quick decision-making based on knowledge and experience
  • Supervise and manage employees, including interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, and disciplinary actions
  • Demonstrate consistent professional communication skills—verbal and written
  • Provide world-class customer service—internal and external
  • Drive team accountability for delivering an exceptional customer experience
  • Review and monitor sales and service performance against plan; identify gaps, issues, and best practices; develop and implement action plans
  • Collaborate with leadership to assess regional strengths, weaknesses, and threats to quality services

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or equivalent preferred, or AA degree and 5+ years of management experience
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Construction Superintendent or Field Supervisor
  • Knowledge of construction building practices and energy efficiency code requirements within the new construction industry
  • Professional license: IRC, Contractor, Certified Trade, or Building energy efficiency certifications
  • Professional affiliation preferred: HVAC or Building Science affiliations welcome
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction field
  • Previous experience in green construction concept building
  • Current and valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and required insurance

Skills

  • Direct experience with IECC RESNET energy code and building specialty programs such as EPA Energy Star, Watersense, Build it Green, and LEED
  • Ability to read building plans
  • Physically agile and able to perform inspections in new construction environments such as attics or tight spaces
  • Computer competency and office skills for data reporting and metric analysis
  • Strong desire to learn building and energy code
  • Knowledge of residential construction practices
  • Ability to build strong personal relationships with staff and internal clients
  • Ability to coordinate and manage assignments with minimal supervision (daily/weekly/monthly)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn other computer applications
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and has a "can do" attitude
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good physical condition; ability to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment, climb ladders, and access attic spaces

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages 6-12 Field Inspectors.

Work Environment

This role operates in a split professional environment. The Area Manager coordinates work schedules and conducts meetings from a home office, inspects field work, attends trainings, and meets on various job sites with staff, clients, and trades. The role requires presenting information to builders and training staff, clients, and trades on energy code and service inspection requirements. Routine use of office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and tablets is required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include traveling to and traversing construction job sites while wearing personal protective equipment. The employee must navigate job sites with trenches, construction materials, and debris, climb stairs and ladders, and occasionally enter attics and confined spaces. The role requires regular standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee must also be able to talk or hear consistently.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is limited to jobs within the regional jurisdiction, ranging from 10% to 40%.
