Area Coordinator
About the role
The Area Coordinator will serve as a full-time live in professional working directly with University Housing’s Resident Success Team to foster a student environment that fulfills the goals and mission of University Housing. Each Area Coordinator will coordinate and administer all aspects of a resident success program in their assigned area housing 600-1000 residents. Area Coordinators select, train, supervise, and evaluate between 16-21 student leaders. Area Coordinators will take lead on a departmental initiative.
Responsibilities
- Manages the operations of two residential communities.
- Engages with the communities utilizing the departmental engagement model.
- Serves on a 24/7 administrator on call and support staff rotation responding to self-harm, title IX and other behavioral and facilities related concerns.
- Serves as a case manager to demonstrate care, provide follow-up, and educate students regarding their behaviors.
- Led a department initiative and serves as a liaison to university-wide initiatives.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
- Professional experience in a university or college student housing setting, including live-in/live-on duties as well as crisis response.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of experience in higher education or a similar area.
- Prior direct supervision of student staff, response to student behavioral issues including crises, facility and occupancy management, fiscal management, and co-curricular programming grounded in student development theory and practice.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Able to apply student development theory in everyday practice, promote academic success and social justice within a community, and familiarity with residential facilities.
- Competence in primary computer applications, social media, database management, and attention to detail in administrative responsibilities.
- This position must be able to understand direction and adhere to established procedures as it pertains to facilities, occupancy, and the code of student conduct.
- The position must use logic to analyze crisis response procedures and relay pertinent information to campus partners.
Pay
SC State Pay Band: GEN09. Salary range: $52,100.00- $70,300.00. Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Must be able to attend overnight conferences and drive state vehicles transporting staff and students for work functions.
