About the role

The Arlington County Public Library is seeking an innovative and experienced Archival Supervisor to manage the Charlie Clark Center for Local History (CCCLH.) The CCCLH collects, preserves, and shares resources that illustrate Arlington County's history, diversity, and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the CCCLH, ensuring the preservation and accessibility of historical materials.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the CCCLH's collection and services, fostering community engagement and education.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the library to integrate local history resources into broader library programs and events.
  • Oversee the hiring and training of staff, providing guidance on archival practices and best management practices.
  • Represent the CCCLH at various community events and meetings, promoting the center's mission and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, History, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in archives, records management, or a similar field.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor staff, develop policies and procedures, and manage budgets.
  • Experience with digital preservation and cataloging systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local history and its significance in Arlington County.
  • Experience with managing and preserving historical documents and artifacts.
  • Understanding of community engagement and outreach strategies.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
