Architect 1
Two full-time Architect 1 positions available in the Operations Services Division in St. Paul, Minnesota. These roles offer a hybrid telework arrangement, subject to change and requiring an annual telework agreement.
About the role
The Architect 1 position provides full professional architectural design services and technical assistance for new construction, remodeling, and rehabilitation of DNR buildings and other infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing and preparing construction documents to meet functional, aesthetic, sustainability, code, legal, schedule, and budget requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform professional architectural work, including design, construction documents, specifications, construction administration, and warranty reviews for new and renovated buildings and facilities.
- Assist and coordinate preparation of design drawings and construction documents with supervisors, project teams, design professionals, drafting technicians, student interns, and outside consultants.
- Provide construction administration services and assist regional Management Resources representatives post-bid award and during construction to ensure project implementation aligns with contract documents.
Requirements
- Three years of experience as a Licensed Professional Architect in the State of Minnesota.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen to customer needs, develop clear project goals, and present proposals verbally and in writing.
- Unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
- Ability to meet physical requirements and work in environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for employment visa status.
- Background check required prior to employment, including conflict of interest review, criminal history check, education verification, employment reference/records check, and license/certification verification.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of architecture sufficient to develop, design, and produce construction plans and specifications.
- Mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines to review projects and advise on changes.
- Code and permit requirements.
Ability to:
- Work on multiple projects at different phases of design and construction.
- Use current Revit and/or AutoCAD software to manage architectural models, generate detailed drawings, and produce construction documents.
- Use Google SketchUp or similar software, and Microsoft Office to prepare documents and spreadsheets.
- Work well in a team setting and be a positive, productive team member.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in sustainable building design, renewable energy systems, construction phase administration, or owner’s representative duties on outsourced projects.
- Experience developing and customizing Revit templates and using AutoCAD and SketchUp for efficient design and documentation.
- Experience with historic rehabilitation projects and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
- Experience with quality control review of construction/bid documents and specification writing.
- B3 project experience (Minnesota Sustainable Building Guidelines).
- LEED certification or equivalent.
Pay
$35.30 - $50.53 hourly; $73,706 - $105,506 annually.
Schedule
- Full-time, unlimited position.
- Day shift, Monday through Friday.
- 15% travel required.
