About the role

The Aquatics Supervisor – Operations is responsible for year-round aquatics operations, lifeguard staff management, aquatics programs, and coordinating group use and pool rentals. Seasonally, this position plans and executes Nottingham Lake lifeguard operations in the summer. Assists the Aquatics Superintendent with promotion and publicity of the Town’s aquatic programs, formulating and implementing community aquatic programs, attracting new pool contracts, and coordinating the use and supervision of the aquatic facility.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains pool operations through vigilant and proactive care of equipment, inventories, chemicals, staff training, Safety Data Sheet (SDS), water balance, pool deck equipment, and preventative maintenance.
  • Recruits, selects, and trains full-time and part-time aquatics staff to ensure proper staffing within the aquatics division.
  • Creates the monthly aquatics staff schedule, including regular in-service trainings, and manages the schedule to ensure all shifts are fully staffed.
  • Develops and implements the new hire training program for aquatics staff as well as monthly in-service trainings.
  • Supervises work assignments, performance, and evaluation of duties for full-time and part-time aquatics staff, providing coaching, corrective action, and positive reinforcement as needed.
  • Performs monthly inspections of the aquatics area to ensure ADA compliance and that all water rides and devices have been inspected yearly by the State of Colorado.
  • Develops and initiates a wide variety of aquatic activities such as swim lessons, scuba, kayak, masters swim, swim team, and other special interest events.
  • Monitors programs in operation, evaluates participation and attendance, and makes recommendations as necessary.
  • Assists with promotional strategies and advertising for all activities.
  • Assists in determining fee structures, maintaining revenue and expense records, and ensuring proper security of all funds received.
  • Oversees the purchase, replacement, and maintenance of equipment used in aquatic programs and operations.
  • Assists with preparation of budget requests and development and management of the aquatics division.
  • Seeks community input on new programs and measures interest levels.
  • Communicates the lap pool schedule to the public in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and submits bi-weekly payroll for full-time and part-time employees.
  • Works closely with the Front Desk, Youth Programs, and Recreation Services Superintendent to ensure quality communication between Aquatics and other divisions.
  • Instructs various recreational classes as needed.
  • Conducts staff meetings for aquatics personnel.
  • Acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) at the Recreation Center as needed.
  • Attends Town of Avon council meetings and community meetings as necessary.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field from an accredited college or university with at least two years of experience in recreation planning, including supervising aquatics facilities and programs, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current certification in Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO), American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/AED, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) is required.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in Spanish both verbally and in writing is preferred.
