General Function
The YMCA of Southwest Washington is a mission-driven organization committed to putting Christian principles into practice. The Facility Director under the supervision of the Senior Program Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the pool, building maintenance, equipment maintenance, contractual agreements, custodial, safety, attractiveness, and longevity of the grounds and facilities.
Entry Requirements
- Must hold current lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Lifeguard Instructor certification and Swim Instructor Trainer certification are required, or the employee must be able to obtain both within 60 days of hire.
- Must have experience supervising a large and diverse staff team, including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance management.
- Aquatics program leadership and pool operations experience are strongly preferred.
- Must have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with YMCA leadership, staff, volunteers, members, participants, families, and the general public.
Essential Functions
- Incorporate and model the YMCA Christian principles of love, respect, honesty, responsibility, and service while building positive relationships with staff, volunteers, members, participants, families, and community partners.
- Plan, develop, supervise, and evaluate aquatic programs, including swim lessons, lifeguard services, water fitness, recreational swimming, private lessons, rentals, and other activities that meet member and community needs.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and develop aquatics staff and volunteers while maintaining appropriate staffing levels and current certification and personnel records.
- Conduct or coordinate lifeguarding, swim instruction, CPR, First Aid, emergency response, and other required staff trainings and skill evaluations.
- Oversee daily pool operations and ensure compliance with YMCA standards and all applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records related to pool chemicals, inspections, maintenance, incidents, certifications, emergency drills, and program operations.
- Ensure aquatic spaces, equipment, rescue supplies, and first-aid materials are clean, safe, organized, available, and properly maintained.
- Cook up and manage pool maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility needs with YMCA staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Develop and manage staff schedules, program schedules, the annual department budget, payroll, expenses, revenue, enrollment, and participation goals.
- Review program statistics and financial performance and recommend program fees, staffing levels, equipment purchases, facility improvements, and service adjustments.
- Support the marketing and communication of aquatic programs, schedules, closures, and updates, and respond professionally to member questions and concerns.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and organizational events and perform other duties as assigned.
