AQUATICS COORDINATOR, WILDCAT RECREATION CENTER AT ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF CSU, CHICO
This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), non-exempt position with the Associated Students of CSU, Chico at the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC).
Pay
The pay range for this position is $23.50 to $27.00 per hour; new hires typically start at the beginning of the range.
Schedule
The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, with some flexibility of times. Occasional weekends may be required. The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

About the Organization
The Associated Students (AS) is a campus auxiliary organization serving thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members. With an annual operating budget exceeding $21 million, the AS manages residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and the Wildcat Store contract. The AS also provides a wide range of student-focused programs and services, including CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Sustainability initiatives, and student government. About the Role
Under administrative direction, coordinate the WREC aquatics program including student staff supervision, program development, risk management assessment and implementation, safety classes, and training. The Aquatics Coordinator is also responsible for performing and/or securing the appropriate maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the pool (including chemicals), associated equipment, and pool deck.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of lifeguards and other aquatics program staff.
- Train staff as needed, including lifeguard monthly in-service curriculum and verbal or physical audits. Maintain required documentation.
- Develop safety programs for both the campus community and WREC staff, including CPR, AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and swim lessons. Regularly evaluate program needs based on customer feedback and industry trends.
- Develop aquatic programming, such as competitive and social events, Wildcat Welcome Week activities, and collaborations with University Housing, Adventure Outings, WREC Fitness, and the Intramurals and Sport Clubs departments.
- Collaborate with AS Marketing and AS Operational Programming Services to develop and market aquatics programs.
- Develop and maintain training and procedural manuals for lifeguards and safety instructors.
- Represent WREC staff and Associated Students in contacts with the campus community, the public, and contractors involved with construction, repair, and renovation projects.
- Manage certifications database of supervised employees and serve as Red Cross liaison on behalf of the WREC.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance of the pool and related equipment, including pool deck cleaning, tile cleaning, pool chemistry, temperature control, chemical purchasing, and maintenance of back-of-the-house operational equipment.
- Regularly assess pool, pool deck, and back-of-the-house conditions. Collaborate with AS Facilities to perform or secure equipment repairs and plan for equipment replacement.
- Serve on AS and campus committees as appropriate.
Positions directly supervised: Student staff including Lifeguards, Safety Instructors, and Head Lifeguards.

Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience:
- One (1) year full-time or part-time equivalent experience in aquatics facility management and programming.
- One (1) year full-time or part-time equivalent supervisory experience in aquatics/pool facility.
- Graduate assistantship or post-graduate internship experience may be substituted.
- Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, or related field.
- Aquatic experience in a campus fitness/recreation setting.
- Pool maintenance experience.
- Current CPO/AFO Certificate.
- Current Red Cross Instructor Certificate in Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22).
- Current base level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22).
- Special Requirements:
- Post-offer pre-employment physical required.
- Post-offer pre-employment swim test to include American Red Cross Lifeguarding pre-requisites.
- Possession of or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire:
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor and First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Bridge.
- Current base level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22).
- Current CPO/AFO Certificate.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, including a criminal records check.
