Coordinator, Campus Recreation

About the role

The Coordinator of Campus Recreation is a key leader within Campus Recreation, driving student engagement, wellness, and community through innovative recreation and fitness programs. This role oversees daily operations, programming, and staffing of the Recreation Center, including recruitment, training, and development of student staff. The Coordinator supports the Waterfront program and other Campus Recreation initiatives, fostering a collaborative, student-focused environment that enhances the campus experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and evaluates student-centered fitness, club sports, and outdoor recreational programming in alignment with departmental goals and student needs, including designing and leading fitness classes and wellness initiatives.
• Trains, supervises, and mentors student staff and club leaders.
• Actively supports and enhances the Campus Waterfront Program through collaboration, safety oversight, and skill-building opportunities, while continuously assessing and improving program offerings.
• Schedules and supervises Campus Recreation student staff and OPS Pool Tech.
• Oversees aquatics, fitness, and sports facilities for safety, operation, and administration; routinely evaluates condition of and performs light maintenance on fitness, aquatics, and sports equipment.
• Manages administrative operations for aquatics, fitness, sports facilities, programs, and staff to ensure compliance, efficient scheduling, and high-quality services.
• Builds strong partnerships with campus departments, vendors, and community groups to enhance support and student success.
• Plans, facilitates, and supervises lifeguard and aquatic program activities, training, in-services, certifications, events, and lifeguarding while maintaining high standards of quality and performance of all staff, including actively lifeguarding at times.
• Maintains aquatic facilities, including backwashing the pool.
• Maintains accurate records and data on all programs, events, and campus activities, including state Department of Health logs for maintaining an aquatics facility.
• Serves on college committees as assigned, supports all Campus Life programming, and assists with other campus events as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in recreational programming such as fitness instruction, camp counseling, sports programming, or other related experience.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• Florida Department of Health Public Swimming Pool Technician certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• At least 1 year of experience in recreational sports management.
• Current nationally-recognized certification in group or individual fitness training.
• Current certified Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid Instructor.
