Aquatics Coordinator

About the role

The Aquatics Coordinator, under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, ensures the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, maintaining the pool in accordance with the standards set forth by the Aquatics Department and the Georgia Health Department.

Responsibilities

• Maintain schedules for aquatics staff for all shifts, including opening and closing responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain all aquatic programming and initiatives; create and maintain program calendars and schedules.
• Ensure day-to-day compliance with all programs and maintain applicable certification standards.
• Adhere to and enforce rules and regulations of the YMCA and aquatics department, including maintaining the pool’s chemical balance (in support of the Certified Pool Operator).
• Comply with all YMCA and Health Department standards and ensure pool cleanliness with aquatics staff.
• Report any mechanical needs to Branch Executive and/or support services.
• Check and record pool chemistry and discuss related chemistry or mechanical concerns with Branch Executive and support services.
• Train staff in proper emergency policies and procedures through regular in-services.
• Maintain constant surveillance of the water and the deck at all times.
• Complete incident reports properly and submit them to Branch Leadership.
• Give 100% attention to patrons and the operation of the pool area.
• Address questions and concerns of YMCA members with exceptional service and ensure adequate follow-through in a timely manner.
• Attend all scheduled meetings, trainings, and events.
• Follow all aquatic department policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Associate degree in public administration, exercise science, or related field OR High school diploma and 1+ years of aquatics experience.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Current lifeguard certification.
• Certified Pool Operator (within 6 months of hire).
• Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen (O2) Training, and First Aid/CPR training within 30 days of hire.
• Maintain certification or re-certification by taking continuing education credits (CECs).
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Effective problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and strong organizational skills.
• Excellent customer service experience and standards.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Y-USA Leader Certification (within 90 days of hire).
• Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.
• Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner, holding true to a commitment to the YMCA’s values, philosophies, and ideals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an aquatics leadership role.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, ASHI Instructor, and/or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer Certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Walk, sit, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, swim, and climb.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds in weight.
• Speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
