About the role
The Missouri Judiciary is seeking an Apprentice Court Clerk to perform entry-level duties in a court utilizing an electronic filing system. Initially, work will be supervised closely, focusing on gaining general office knowledge and understanding specific court policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Process court cases, applying independent judgment and following statutes, policies, and regulations.
- Provide exceptional customer service to the public, interacting frequently.
- Manage financial record keeping within an automated case management system, supporting circuit judges or associate circuit judges.
- Initiate and receive case files, review legal documents, set bonds, and process warrants, summonses, and garnishments.
- Prepare various documents for court operations, including court orders, calendars, notices, and reports.
- Coordinate document flow for court assignments and queue electronically filed proceedings for processing.
Requirements
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related field or at least 60 semester hours from an institution of higher learning.
- Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Ability to comprehend court procedures, legal documents, laws, and legal factors pertinent to the court.
- Working knowledge of the organization's operations, functions, and scope of authority within the court.
- Independent decision-making skills, managing a high-volume workload in a high-stress environment.
- Good judgment, maintaining a variety of complex records, and preparing reports from an automated system.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle evidence and testimony that may be disturbing, including photographs of violent scenes and victims, sexually explicit material, syringes, drugs, weapons, and blood.
- Resistance to unpleasant odors, such as unwashed clothing or chemicals offered into evidence.
Skills
- Comprehension of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws, and legal factors pertaining to the court.
- Working knowledge of organization operations, functions, and scope of authority within the court.
- Independence and effective time management in a high-stress, frequently changing priority environment.
