About the role
The Missouri Judiciary is seeking an Apprentice Court Clerk to perform entry-level duties in a court utilizing an electronic filing system. Initial work is supervised, focusing on gaining general office knowledge and specific court policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assign mail to correct division/clerk
- Utilize a personal computer to access the automated judicial information system (JIS) and retrieve documents and filings from the eFiling queue
- Enter and/or accept memos and assign work to the correct queue
- Quality control of scanned memos
- Copy the Judgement and Sentences and send the paperwork to the proper facilities
- Answer inquiries and furnish information to attorneys, court personnel and the general public in person and by telephone
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Receive and initiate case files
- Perform technical duties such as reviewing judgments, preparing warrants, summonses and garnishments and executions, bond settings and docket control
- Determine processing required and take necessary action in accordance with court rules
- Review legal documents for necessary information required for filing
- Prepare a variety of documents related to court operations including court orders, court calendars, notices of hearings, court appearances, or reports
- Coordinate the flow of documents necessary for court assignments
- Properly queue electronically filed proceedings for processing
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in a related field or at least 60 semester hours from an institution of higher learning
- Additional experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education

- Ability to comprehend court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the court
- Ability to gain working knowledge of organization operations, functions and scope of authority of the court
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while handling a high-volume workload in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and high stress
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with general policy and objectives
- Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and prepare reports from an automated system
