About the role

Network Underground Services (NUS) of Georgia Power provides construction & maintenance services for underground electrical systems across Georgia. The role involves assisting with the construction & maintenance of these systems and learning the necessary skills and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the construction & maintenance of network underground systems and hi-rely distribution systems.
  • Learn installation, splicing, and terminating of various electrical cables, including transitioning from PILC to XLP and EPR.
  • Work in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults, and tunnels, requiring access by ladders and working at heights.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions and elements.
  • Work in teams and display ethical behaviors aligned with the company's values.
  • Pass a pre-employment written exam and CAST test, as well as a DOT drug screen and physical exam.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in construction, heavy industrial maintenance, utility, military, or electrical fields.
  • Experience working outdoors, with heavy equipment/machinery, emergency responders, commercial truck driving, and farming is a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Current CDL (Class A) or CDL Learner's Permit.
  • Body weight under 270 pounds.
  • Ability to lift and drag equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Available for call-out duties during storm emergencies.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hand tools.
  • Proven ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.

Benefits

The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with IBEW Local 84, offering union membership as an option. Starting pay for all new hires is $6,396/month or approximately $36.90/hour, non-negotiable.

Schedule

Flexibility in desired work locations is essential for progression through the Apprentice Cable Splicer Development Program. Candidates must be available to work within a certain distance of their assigned operating headquarters upon hire.
