About the role

Network Underground Services (NUS) of Georgia Power provides construction & maintenance services for underground electrical systems across Georgia. The Apprentice Cable Splicer (ACS) positions are based in Atlanta, Augusta, and Savannah. The role involves assisting with the construction & maintenance of network underground systems and other high-reliability distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the construction & maintenance of network underground systems and other high-reliability distribution systems.
• Learn the construction and maintenance activities associated with our Network & Hi-reliability Distribution systems, as well as operating procedures for all equipment involved in the process, including cranes, lifts, aerial devices, and cable pulling equipment.
• Work in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults, and tunnels where entry requires access by ladders and work at heights in lifts, buckets, scaffolds, etc.
• Perform physically demanding tasks while working outside in all weather conditions and elements.
• Take instruction, direction, and translate into actions.
• Work in a team environment and display ethical behaviors aligned with "Our Values": Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background.
• Minimum of 1 year of work experience in construction, heavy industrial maintenance, utility, military, or electrical experience.
• Experience working outdoors, with heavy equipment/machinery, heavy load rigging/lifting, emergency responders, commercial truck driving, and/or farming is a plus.
• Network or Distribution underground experience is strongly desired.
• Military experience is a plus.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Ability to lift and drag equipment weighing 50-pounds or more.
• Available for "call out" duties during storm emergencies at least 50% of the times requested, including overnight and out-of-state travel.
• Pass a pre-employment written exam (Construction and Skills Trade test).
• Pass a post-offer employment test.
• Pass a thorough background check and DOT drug screen.
• Pass a pre-employment (DOT) physical exam approved by our company physician.
• Current starting pay for ALL NEW HIRES is $6,396/month or approximately $36.90/hour.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL (Class A) or CDL Learner's Permit.
• If military, obtain a Georgia CDL Permit Waiver.
• Must be able to lift and drag equipment weighing 50-pounds or more.
• Available for "call out" duties during storm emergencies at least 50% of the times requested, including overnight and out-of-state travel.
• Available for work in extreme weather conditions throughout the entire year.
• Must be able to frequently work in extreme weather conditions throughout the entire year.
