Sessional Dates: September 2026 to April 2027

Estimated appointments: 1 to 2, each with 24 hour-long in-person lessons.

Pay

$112.44/hour

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in violin performance or equivalent professional experience.
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Ongoing performing activities encompassing a wide range of orchestral, solo, and chamber repertoire.
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching violin (baroque) at the university level.

Responsibilities

  • Define lesson objectives and materials.
  • Provide clear guidelines on studio requirements and regulations.
  • Teach lessons as scheduled.
  • Administer and evaluate student progress through assigned repertoire and exercises.
  • Ensure that the Strings Area and Performance Division requirements are met in regard to culminating juries and recitals.
  • Prepare and submit final grade and comments in accordance with policy and scheduled deadlines.
  • Maintain reasonable hours of student consultation outside scheduled class hours.

Additional Information

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement and should not apply for this position.
