About the role

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) at Sanford Health provides direct care for infants in the neonatal unit in collaboration with the neonatologists. They manage high-risk deliveries, perform various clinical procedures, and coordinate care with other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Attend high risk deliveries and provide medical management as a member of the multi-disciplinary group.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures independently including resuscitation, endotracheal tube placement/intubation, PICC line insertion, umbilical catheter insertion, peripheral arterial line insertion, chest tube insertion and removal, thoracentesis, lumber puncture, double or partial volume exchange transfusion, and neonatal transport.
  • Manage the care of ill newborns and develop and implement care plans.
  • Evaluate the infant's response to interventions and make adjustments to the care plan as necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians to manage the overall medical care of patients beyond the scope of practice for the NNP.
  • Provide patient and family education on self-management of health issues.
  • Participate in clinical research studies and incorporate evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
  • Deliver nursing care during air and ground inter-facility and/or scene transport.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an neonatal nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Licensing prior to August 1, 1995 in ND, master's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months, or completion of master’s/post-master’s degree program in the past twelve months.
  • Experience must correlate to the privileges requested.
  • Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or an equivalent nationally recognized body.

Pay

Compensation Package: Sanford Health offers a nationally competitive salary with an additional physician benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, 401K plan, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, CME allowance, allowed time away, malpractice insurance with tail coverage, and a relocation allowance.
