About the role
The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is seeking a NICU Nurse Practitioner at 50% - 100% FTE. The position offers a SIGN-ON BONUS OF $20,000 for qualified candidates. (*Must be hired at 75% FTE or greater; Internal candidates are not eligible for sign-on bonus.)
Responsibilities
- Assesses the patient’s health status by means of history taking, physical examination, laboratory studies, and any additional means that are determined to be appropriate.
- Plans and communicates treatment programs relating to the health aspects of the patient’s needs.
- Recognizes, discriminates, and manages acute illness, chronic conditions, and disabilities.
- Determines and facilitates referral and consultation needs in a timely manner.
- Completes medicine documentation and billing procedures according to institutional and departmental guidelines.
- Integrates health information into the diagnoses and treatment plan for each patient and may assist the patient and family in the implementation of the plan in the community.
- Provides an ongoing health education program for patients and their families, utilizing all available media.
- Initiates therapeutic measures using independent judgment according to recognized clinical guidelines.
- Completes MAC, human resource, outreach, and other administrative paperwork.
- Performs other projects as assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for supervisory and administrative activities and special projects as delegated by the Nurse Pracitioner Supervisor/Medical Director.
Requirements
- Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP): A Current RN license from the State of Iowa is required. A Current ARNP license from the State of Iowa is required.
- Physician Assistant (PA): Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which includes graduation from an accredited PA education program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
- Two years' experience in neonatology is required.
- National certification as NNP (National Exam) is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrated Level III/VI NICU experience.
- Demonstrated clinical excellence through published articles and/or clinical presentations.
- Demonstrated experience providing overall medical care and provide medical management for patients in an inpatient setting.
- Demonstrated experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided.
- Demonstrated experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical care of pediatrics.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- DEA License.
