The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for planning and directing the delivery of primary health care and health education programs in association with Methodist Healthcare Primary Care Associates (MHPCA). The incumbent will provide care and health education for patients and their family, modeling appropriate behavior as exemplified in our Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned center according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.
• Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director/collaborating Physician.
• Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
• Collaborates with Medical Physician and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients. Makes referrals as appropriate.
• Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
• Understands, applies, and supports practice policies, procedures, goals, and standards.
• Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses, and support staff. Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (required).
• Master’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse – Tennessee Board of Nursing (required).
• Advanced Practice Nurse – Tennessee Board of Nursing (required).
• Family Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (required).
• Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required).
• Current DEA number (if required by facility).
• Preferred certifications:
  • Primary Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
  • Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  • Emergency Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse – Mississippi Board of Nursing.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  • Adult Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Skills

• Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing.

Physical Demands

• Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
• Exposure to patient body fluids, hazardous or poisonous materials, and extreme temperatures.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations and handle or administer narcotics.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate orally with other individuals.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, gripping, squeezing, and coordinated hand-eye movements.
