Instruction & Student Learning

The Annually Contracted Faculty member teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member designs curriculum to foster talent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies. They consider individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. They use technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicate clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies. They maintain attendance records, determine and submit grades timely and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicate progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member creates and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. They participate in the selection of appropriate materials to support course curriculum in accordance with the College’s guidelines.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. They employ and assist in the design and development of appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member facilitates learning in a virtual environment. They create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member uses technology to assist in communication with students. They encourage a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. They refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.

Continuous Improvement

The Annually Contracted Faculty member promotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, as appropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course description, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curricula.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member completes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participates in all required training by the College. They share best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings. They participate in instructional, departmental, or institutional research to improve educational effectiveness. They evaluate teaching and assessment practices to continue improving them. They provide feedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of the department, division, and the College.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member attends faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chairperson.

Professional Development

The Annually Contracted Faculty member employs student, administrative and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professional development and participates in professional development activities. They contribute, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programs.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member maintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.

The Annually Contracted Faculty member fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Science of Respiratory Care
  • Three (3) years as a registered respiratory technician (RTT)
  • One (1) year experience in teaching, training, or being a preceptor

Compensation Details

  • 9-Month Lecturers Salary: $43,848.00 - $50,112.00 Autumn/Spring: $21,924 (21 hrs.) - $25,056 (24 hrs.)
  • Optional Summer Semester (15-21 contact hours): $15,660.00 - $21,924.00
  • Optional Overload (maximum amounts shown): Autumn Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00 Spring Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00 Summer Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00
  • 9-Month hours equaling 42 hrs. - 48 hrs.
  • CSCC has the right to revise this position description at any time.

About The ACF

The Annually Contracted Faculty (ACF) position at Columbus State is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position. ACFs are typically placed on a one-year, two-semester contract that is renewable each year. CCP-ACFs (College Credit Plus) are typically placed on a two-year contract.
