Animal Welfare Auditor III

About the role

As an Animal Welfare Auditor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our organization adheres to the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical practices. This position involves conducting thorough audits of our facilities, suppliers, and partners to assess and improve animal welfare conditions.

Responsibilities

• Focus on learning audit tools and procedures in one species when learning the position and company, then develop cross-species skills and expand knowledge of other animal welfare sectors (multi-species auditing is required).
• Conduct audits at assigned facilities.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy in all audits and audit reports.
• Communicate with clients in preparation for audits.
• Maintain confidentiality about all aspects of work and adhere to all procedures established by FACTA and its auditing clients.
• Follow and adhere to all required protocols and procedures, including submitting detailed time and expense reports prior to firm deadlines.
• Schedule audit-associated travel.
• Meet required timelines for audit reports.
• Communicate with management, producers, and others as needed.
• Able to work independently in a timely manner without direct oversight.
• Exhibit foundational understanding of computer systems used in the audit report process.
• Effectively demonstrate communication, listening, and problem-solving skills, including asking questions and escalating risks and issues beyond own experience or skill set.
• Comply with firm practice management procedures and systems.
• Complete audit procedures that obtain sufficient appropriate audit evidence with a focus on quality and in accordance with applicable auditing standards.
• Maintain professional skepticism, including consideration of alternative and disconfirming evidence.
• Complete tasks and deliverables to a high-quality standard.
• Keep senior team members informed of significant developments and progress on the engagement.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of industry jargon and intermediate knowledge in at least one species.
• Assist with updating training programs and audit documents on an annual basis under the supervision of other team members.
• Travel frequency fluctuates throughout the year and can range from 60-80%, with some trips beginning on Sunday evening. Audits are located across the United States.
• Attend industry conferences with experienced auditors/directors, with assistance, and speak with current and prospective clients.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree and education related to animal production and welfare is preferred.
• A minimum of two years of experience and/or training in animal production or welfare (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered). Note: This does not include veterinary care for domestic animals.
• Hold active PAACO certifications (poultry or swine) or be working to obtain them.
• Animal welfare or animal husbandry exposure required.
• Computer proficiency required.
• Possess working knowledge of livestock handling tools.
• Ability to travel 60-80% to on-site audits.
