ANIMAL CARETAKER III

About the Role

This position focuses on developing individual skills based on work requirements within the designated animal care area. You will work in a cohesive team environment to provide essential care to animals, with 100% supervision for the first 30 days. Progression to Animal Care Technician 2 will be evaluated at 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Basic sow/gilt handling: feeding, watering, and moving animals
• Operating machinery and equipment
• Assisting with farrowing (birth) and breeding (artificial insemination)
• Handling and using chemicals, vaccinating, and medicating sows and piglets
• Cleaning tasks, including afterbirth and dead pigs, and scraping
• Using computer equipment, including handheld devices and electronic wands
• Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled
• Maintaining farm cleanliness
• Adhering to all biosecurity standards, including showering in and out of facilities

Requirements

• A B.S. degree in Animal Science or equivalent
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including MS Excel (helpful)
• Valid driver’s license
• Working knowledge of sow farm management, swine animal welfare standards, biosecurity and health management processes, and safety and environmental procedures
• Previous animal care experience preferred but not required
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, and positive individual with a strong work ethic
• Willingness to work weekend and holiday hours on a rotational basis

Pay

$19.05 per hour
